What is the BA (Hons) Animation course?
With this degree, you’ll be prepared for a career in animation, games, film, and many other creative fields. The course combines traditional practices with modern techniques, focusing on real-time 2D and 3D visual technologies. You’ll develop practical skills in performance-based animation, character design, and production workflows — gaining experience in creating animation for film, television, games, and interactive media.
Collaboration is central to the course, as you’ll work with other MetStudios students from the Games Art and Games Design and Development courses on projects, experiencing the cooperative nature of animation and creative production.

What is the course focused on?

Year 1: Build the essential skills for animation and visual effects, learning core software and exploring the wider animation industry.

Year 2: Develop your technical and creative expertise, designing and creating assets for animation and VFX.

Year 3: Refine your skills, build a professional portfolio, and prepare for a career in digital media. You’ll engage with industry, complete a final project, and be ready to launch your career as an animator.
What tools are used?
Students work with industry-leading 3D software such as Maya, ZBrush, and Houdini for modelling, animation, and visual effects. They also use game engines for 3D animation and Adobe Creative Suite for design and compositing.
