By MetStudios

02 January 2026

2026 is shaping up to be an exciting year for animation, with beloved franchises returning and bold new stories arriving in cinemas. Audiences can look forward to stunning visuals, memorable characters, and films that promise to entertain and inspire. Here’s a sneak peek at the animated releases you won’t want to miss.

Wildwood

LAIKA Studios’ highly anticipated stop-motion adventure, Wildwood, is based on Colin Meloy’s beloved novel of the same name. The film marks the latest imaginative project from the studio behind Coraline and promises the same stunning handcrafted animation and darkly whimsical storytelling that fans have come to expect. With no confirmed release date, it’s one to watch in 2026.

GOAT

GOAT is an upcoming Sony Pictures Animation movie about a determined goat who gets a rare chance to compete in ‘roarball’, a fast-paced sport ruled by the toughest animals. Packed with humour, it’s shaping up to be one of 2026’s most exciting animated releases. Get ready to cheer on February 13th, 2026!

Hoppers

Hoppers tells the story of scientists who have discovered a way to “hop” human consciousness into lifelike robotic animals. Produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures, the film blends the studio’s signature heart and humour with breathtaking animation, making it one of 2026’s most anticipated releases. It’s set to hit cinemas on March 6th, 2026.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

The first Super Mario Bros. Movie smashed box office records when it was released in 2023, raising huge excitement for the next chapter. Produced by Illumination in collaboration with Nintendo, the trailer has already thrilled fans by revealing that beloved characters Rosalina and Bowser Jr. will join the adventure, promising even more colourful worlds, fun, and action-packed moments. Mark your calendars for April 3rd, 2026.

The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender

The Legend of Aang

Set years after the events of 2005’s beloved animated classic, this new film continues the Avatar saga. The original story followed 12-year-old Aang, a long-lost Avatar who mastered the elements to save the world from the ruthless Fire Nation. Produced by Nickelodeon Movies in collaboration with Paramount Animation, the movie promises to expand the rich, action-packed universe fans know and love. After several delays, the adventure continues in October 2026.
